The Ultimate Guide to Wine Gifts for Father’s Day

Let’s face it, Dads are underappreciated, but we can change that this Father’s Day. Whether your Dad is a sommelier or wine enthusiast, there is a wine gift for every dad on the spectrum. And if he’s a beer drinker, this is your opportunity to convert him to wine. When I was a Mission Hill Sommelier, one thing that was very apparent of how men choose their wine compared to women is that — price matters. It probably doesn’t come as a surprise, but the higher the price, the more men like the wine. Secondly, men tend to favour red wine. I can’t tell you the number of times male guests told me that the Mission Hill Oculus was their favourite wine AND it was our most expensive wine and a red blend. With that being said, since I understand how men choose their wine, here’s my recommended list of gifts that your Winer Dad (or soon-to-be Winer Dad) will LOVE.

1. Mission Hill Quatrain — $80

Why didn’t I mention Oculus here if I’m suggesting a Mission Hill wine, you may ask? It’s because many guests I’ve served have said they like Quatrain the same or more than Oculus and it’s half the price — so more bang for your buck! Quatrain is similar to Oculus and is a Bordeaux-style blend of Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s rich and bold with notes of blackberry, cherry, blueberry, black pepper, spice, and hints of earthiness. This wine is very age-able as well, so if your dad is a wine collector, this would be a great addition to his collection and he can keep this wine in the cellar for 5–7 years.

2. Culmina Hypothesis — $46

Culmina is one of the top wineries in the Okanagan. Their Hypothesis is bold, rich, and a Bordeaux-style blend like Quatrain. It’s Cabernet Sauvignon dominant with Cabernet Franc and Merlot and has notes of cherries, red currants, black pepper, cloves, and hints of mint. This is one of my favourite locally-made red blends and it’s a steal for $46, so you’ll have extra wallet room to treat your dad to a nice meal, wine accessories, or even a spa day.

3. The Coolest Wine Rack You’ll Ever Own — starting at $49

Dads love to impress their guests they invite to their home and this rustic-style wine bottle holder with a built-in rack for wine glasses will help him do just that. It’s a great accessory for Dads to place their most-prized wine bottle that they want to serve to their guests. This wine rack will also make their wine look more expensive (who doesn’t love that). This wine rack comes in 3 styles: Hitch A Ride Bicycle, Don’t Touch my Peacock, and Grapes in the Garden.

4. Sommelier Corkscrew — $20

Wherever your dad is on the wine spectrum (sommelier, wine enthusiast, etc.), corkscrews are an investment, not a cost. I can’t tell you the many times I’ve used a cheap corkscrew and how it ruined my experience with opening a wine bottle. Save your Dad the hassle and get him a professional, sommelier-grade corkscrew, so he can open his wine bottles like a PRO.

5. Robert Mondavi Bourbon Barrel Cabernet Sauvignon — $18

This wine converts well with bourbon and old-fashioned lovers. This Cabernet Sauvignon is aged in Bourbon barrels, so it’s richer and has bourbon flavours like vanilla, caramel, and spice. As well, the bourbon barrel increases the alcohol content by 0.5% to 1%, giving it that extra warming effect. This is a really interesting wine to try and I’m sure your Dad will enjoy it. 6. Keepin’ It Ruff Dog Wall Art — $20

With Zoom calls being the norm these days, people either opt for boring backgrounds of their home or a virtual background. Everyone knows virtual backgrounds are becoming boring, so help your Dad keep his audience entertained by having cool dog wall art. It makes for a great talking piece and looks professional on virtual chats. We all need more dogs in our lives and we got wall art for every type of dog lover in our store, whether he’s into poodles, bulldogs, dachshunds, beagles, or all dogs.

I hope this helps with gift hunting for Father’s Day!

Double cheers — one for you and one for your dad.
